Wood Fair

Organizing fair is one of the important aspects of our culture. The Wood Fair is an integral feature of the culture of Katihar, in which only wooden articles are displayed for sale. By the way, it was started to improve the economic condition of the surrounding rural artisans, but now with the passage of time, wood traders from nearby big cities have also started participating in this fair. This fair is organized in some rural areas of Katihar but this fair held near Gorakhnath temple of Azamnagar block is very popular and famous. This wooden fair is held here twice a year. Normally this fair starts from the Amavasya of Fagul in the month of February-March and the fair lasts for 15 days. Farmers come here from nearby rural areas, besides this, wood traders also come from cities like Siliguri, Guwahati, Katihar, Kishanganj, Purnia etc. to sell their goods. This fair is held here for the second time in a year during Rakshabandhan and it lasts for two days. Wooden furniture and toys are mainly sold in the fair. Apart from getting a good market for the rural farmers from this fair, people coming from near and far places get good goods at affordable prices. A wooden fair is also held at some other places of Katihar district. This fair held for 15 days at the time of Tilasankranti in Aalepur (Wazipur) village of Barsoi block is also famous in the surrounding areas, apart from this, this fair is also held in Azamnagar market during Durga Puja.
